ELSTI NEISTINN (the oldest spark) - Burst

Video work, 2021. From the exhibition The Oldest Spark in Ygallery. All the pieces of the show has the same name as the show

This video work was a part of the exhibition The Oldest Spark that took place in Ygallery in 2021, an exhibition space nesting between two petrol pumps that 24/7 draw petrol from tanks hidden underneath the space itself. With such firepower right underneath your feet it is hard to not think of energy, explosives and the unstoppable expansion. Like petrol being compressed into a machine and set on fire, creation is also a ticking timebomb.

Something bursts and for a while an expanding cloud of unconnected ideas and visions form, with the possibility of unimaginable results.⠀Sometimes the results are minuscule, sometimes slow, sometimes fast, sometimes ugly,⠀sometimes not asked for and so connected to the body that you need to set it on fire.

The moment of creation ignores time and space and is a continuation of the oldest spark that is still expanding. In one percent of the fuzzy black and white "TV-snow" you can still see the spark flickering; it is the background radiation of the Big Bang itself, the oldest spark.
